Abia Police Rescue 14 Pregnant Girls From Baby Factory

The Punch reports that the martenity home was allegedly being used as
a baby factory at Umukpeyi village in the Isiala Ngwa South local
government area of the state.

According to Udeviotu Onyeke, the state police public relations officer, the age of the victims range from 14 to 25.

Onyeke disclosed that the baby factory belonged to a child trafficking syndicate leader in the state, simply known as Madam Nma.

The spokesman said that the police officers rescued the girls after
they had been informed that the owner of the illegal maternity home had
been harbouring pregnant teenagers in the home for commercial purposes.

During the interrogation, some of the suspects said that they came from Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Rivers states.

“Majority of those rescued claimed that they were brought to the
home by sympathisers after they were driven away from their homes when
it was discovered that they had unwanted pregnancies,” Onyeke said.

The police spokesman said that the owner of the baby factory escaped
arrest as she was not at home during the raid. However, he stressed that
efforts were on to track her down and apprehend.

Earlier this year, the Imo state police command discovered a baby
factory allegedly operated by one Chief Emmanuel Eke, a senior civil
servant in Abia state. As a result of the successful operation, the
police officers rescued five pregnant teenagers, including a deaf and
dumb victim.
