40 Students participated in LIRS Essays

No fewer than 40 students who participated in the Lagos Internal Revenue Service secondary school essay competition and had their essays shortlisted have successfully defended their essays.

Anticipation of the participants continues to grow as organisers have revealed that the winning candidates would know their fate on January 15, 2015.
The exercise, which took place at the Nigerian Union of Teachers Pavilion in Lagos, had pupils from various secondary schools in the state defending their essays before a panel of judges.
The contestants wrote on “The various sources of revenue available to African countries, highlighting the best that will guarantee sustainable development”; “What role should oil revenue play (in relation to tax revenue) in the development of Nigeria in the next 10 years; and “What is the relationship between tax revenue and employment?
The three top winners in each category will earn scholarship grants of between N100,000 and N300,000 as well as trophies and plaques at an event to be chaired by the Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola.
